GATE Eligibility & Identification

ClassroomThe GATE Eligibility Process for identifying new GATE students begins the first week of October of each year. New students are notified in early November.

GATE Referrals

Referrals for screening for GATE eligibility can be made by teachers, administrators, parents, counselors, and the GATE coordinator. Call 765 4302, ext. 114, or email Mr. Flinders at tflinders@oldadobe.org and leave the student's name, grade, school, and teacher.

Multiple Criteria Score

GATE identification is based on a student's combined score on:

  1. CST-STAR Test: The scaled scores from the California Standards Test (CST) in English-Language Arts and Math.
  2. Teacher Evaluation Scale: The Classroom teacher uses this scale to assess the GATE eligibility of referred students.

Students whose total Multiple Criterion Scale score places them in the highest 9% of the intermediate level population become GATE eligible and are invited to participate in the GATE program.
