Student work
During each session of the GATE Enrichment Program, students immerse themselves in the study of a single subject area. In recent years, areas of study have included Plane and Solid Geometry, Medieval History, Cosmology, Journalism, Evolution, The Age of Discovery and Logic.
Through a combination of lecture, readings, selected video presentations, and web research, students gain enough of an exposure to the subject area to feel familiar with the basic concepts and (hopefully) have their interest piqued enough to explore the subject on their own.
Portfolios
At the end of the quarter, students collect their written and artistic work into a GATE portfolio that becomes their permanent possession.
Technology
Alongside their immersion in a content area, students learn basic computer skills, including word processing, Power Point presentations, and basic web design. Their final projects involve using technology to create an engaging presentation in the core subject area.
Samples
You can find samples of student web projects in Evolution and Cosmology.
